DNA Microarray Analysis

There will be a reduced charge of $150.00 per sample for labeling reactions that fail to give enough labeled RNA for the hybridization procedure. Please check your RNA with a gel for tight rRNA bands, and with 260/280 readings (≥1.9 in Tris pH8 or ≥1.6 in water). We have available for use in the NARF a PerkinElmer UV/VIS Spectrophotometer and a BioRad Experion automated electrophoresis system for RNA analysis. Please contact the NARF for details. If you would like to do your own labeling reactions we can help you with reagent ordering.

We have computers available in the NARF for microarray analysis. NARF personnel can introduce you to routine microarray analysis. Analysis software for your use in the Microarray Core includes Affymetrix GCOS software, Affymetrix Data Mining Tool and ArrayAssist software from Stratagene. For more detailed help with statistical setup and analysis of your microarray experiments we can suggest collaborators from the VCU Department of Biostatistics.

Spotted Arrays

Also available in the Microarray Core is a Biorobotics MicroGrid TAS spotter for custom spotting of DNA microarrays. We also have a PerkinElmer (Packard) ScanArray 5000XL scanner. This scanner handles arrays printed on a standard microscope slide format and has five individual lasers, allowing the scanning of most available fluorophores.
